Product Description

The Tektronix SPG8000A is a high - precision multiformat video signal generator perfect for master synchronization and reference tasks in video broadcast and production. It offers a wide range of video reference signals like black burst, HD tri - level sync, and various test patterns in serial digital and composite analog formats. Additionally, it provides time reference signals including time code, NTP, and IEEE 1588 PTP. The base setup comes with three sync outputs with customizable output formats and adjustable timing offsets. There are multiple time reference output formats. It has three independent linear time code (LTC) outputs and a fourth LTC connection that can be used as input or output. Each LTC output allows for independent frame rate selection, time source choice, and time zone offset adjustment. Vertical interval time code (VITC) is available on NTSC or PAL black outputs with independent time sources. The SPG8000A can act as an NTP server or a PTP grandmaster clock, giving time - of - day references to network - attached devices. Key features include multiple independent video reference outputs, various time reference signal formats, PTP support, GPS/GLONASS - based synchronization, protection against synchronization shock, a wide selection of video test patterns, 4K/UHD format support, dual hot - swappable power supplies, and easy management via a web - based interface and SNMP. Technical specifications cover reference input, genlock, time reference, and LTC input details such as connector types, impedance, signal ranges, and stability parameters.

Using the Tektronix SPG8000A is straightforward. First, connect your device to the appropriate reference input using the BNC connectors. Make sure to set the correct input impedance and signal type according to your source. For time reference, you can choose from GPS/GLONASS signals, PTP input, LTC input, or enter the time manually. Adjust the time zone offset and daylight saving settings as needed. When it comes to sync outputs, configure each output's format and timing offset independently. To view and change settings, use the web - based interface for remote configuration or SNMP for status and alerts. Keep in mind that when using the LTC input, ensure the signal voltage is within the specified range and the noise and hum levels are within tolerance. If the external reference input, PTP, or GPS/GLONASS signal is lost temporarily, the Stay GenLock and Holdover Recovery features will prevent synchronization shock. For maintenance, keep the device in a clean and dry environment. The dual hot - swappable power supplies ensure continuous operation, but if a power supply needs replacement, follow the proper safety procedures and use the correct replacement parts.
