Product Description

The GefenPRO DVI FM1500 Optical DVI Extender with Recordable EDID is a great solution for extending a DVI source. It can reach up to 3280 feet (one kilometer) using single - mode fiber optic cable and up to 1640 feet (500 meters) in multimode. This extender supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) at 60 Hz. Its optical signal transmission offers excellent immunity to electromagnetic interference. The virtual EDID programming feature allows for quick installation and ensures compatibility between the source and the display. It uses one strand of single - mode or multimode SC terminated fiber optic cable and fully supports DVI 1.0 specifications and DDC2B via virtual DDC. The sender module usually doesn't need an extra power supply if the DVI source provides enough power on pin 14 of the DVI connector. Technical specs include a maximum pixel clock of 165 MHz, an optical wavelength of 1310 nm / 1550 nm (typical), DVI - D 19 - pin male video input and output, SC - type fiber optic connectors, 5V DC power supply, and a power consumption of 250 mA (max.) for the sender and 190 mA (max.) for the receiver. It has dimensions of 1.96' W x 0.59' H x 2.98' D and a shipping weight of 2 lbs.

Using the Gefen GEF - DVI - FM1500 DVI Fiber Optic Cable Extension is easy. First, connect the sender module to your DVI source. Make sure that if your DVI source can provide power on pin 14 of the DVI connector, the sender module won't need an extra power supply. Then, connect the receiver module to your display. Use the provided single - mode or multimode SC terminated fiber optic cable to link the sender and the receiver. When installing, keep in mind that the virtual EDID programming feature will help with quick setup and ensure compatibility between your source and display. For best performance, try to keep the cable away from sources of electromagnetic interference as the extender has good immunity but it's still better to be cautious. In terms of maintenance, keep the connectors clean. If they get dirty, use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe them. Don't bend the fiber optic cable too sharply as it might damage the cable and affect the signal transmission. And that's it, you're all set to enjoy high - resolution video up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz over long distances.
