It allows phantom power to pass through without any popping sounds at the outputs. You can configure it to be Push to Mute or Release to Mute via a secondary switch on the unit's side. The mute switch can be set to Momentary (check the manual), and it comes set to latching from the factory. It only works with balanced signals.
